Senior Art Director, Walgreens

Location: Chicago, IL

Job Summary

Responsible for setting artistic direction for development of marketing campaigns. Ensures branding standards are consistent and maintained across all communication touchpoints. Concepts creative expressions, original photography and other creative assets. In addition, reviews and approves the concepts, designs and artwork of others (i.e. designers, etc.). Coaches and mentors designers on the team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains and is responsible for design standards across Walgreens marketing communications.

  • Assists with project planning through determining project scope, estimating time, resources needed, and managing internal details.

  • Leads the design of a project from concept to completion, assures award-level creative work is executed and solves for marketing objectives.

  • Responsible for analyzing data to drive creative development.

  • Manages the production of art and design assets, to include coordinating design work with copywriters, and designers.

  • Collaborates with manager, designers, writers, other marketing team members, and external stakeholders to ensure the appropriate concepts, themes, and messages are represented effectively and consistently for the business objective(s) and audience(s).

  • Ensures assignments adhere to the approved brand and messaging guidelines to maintain our corporate identity.

  • May present assignment to business area managers/leaders and peers.

  • Evaluates portfolios and recommends the use of external vendors (i.e. photographers, stylists, hair and makeup artists, freelancers, etc.) and their use on various projects.

  • May assist with training new or entry-level designers, as needed.

  • Evaluates and recommends new procedures and equipment such as laptops, monitors or hard drives.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years of experience working as Graphic Designer or above OR a High School Diploma / GED and at least 4 years of experience working as a Graphic Designer or above.

  • Experience leading or performing the design of projects from concept to completion.

  • Experience leading design work and giving art direction for design and photography.

  • Experience using design software, to include Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

  • Experience generating creative, innovative ideas quickly in an agile environment.

  • Willing to travel up to/at least (choose one) of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or Visual Arts.

  • Experience working on retail, marketing, and advertising related projects.

  • Experience working as an Art Director or Graphic Designer.

  • Experience communicating ideas to business owners, stakeholders and senior management in order to persuade, gain acceptance, or sell.
