The associate art director will make original illustrations as well as commission and art direct digital assignments forThe Atlantic,with a focus on daily coverage, features, social media, web series, and podcasts. The role may also include occasional work on the print magazine and special projects.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of design and illustration for digital platforms and an enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced news environment. They should be highly collaborative but also able to work independently to complete tasks. We are looking for someone who can identify a diverse array of artists to contribute toThe Atlanticand thinks outside the box in their approach to design, illustration, and art direction. This person should also be a clear communicator, highly organized, and able to manage time when working on multiple projects and tight deadlines. They are as attentive to the details of an assignment as to the creative concept, from managing correspondence with freelancers to ensuring that all work meets design, production, and editorial standards. The role will include occasional evening and weekend work.
Qualifications Of The Ideal Candidate
2+ years of experience working in design, illustration, digital media, or other relevant fields
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud
Experience with motion graphics and video editing is a plus
Salary Minimum: $65,000, Salary Maximum: $75,000
