Remote Graphic Designer, The Pivot Group - Est. Salary: $65K

Summary

Pivot seeks a Graphic Designer for the 2024 election cycle. This is a fully remote position in our Creative Department. 

The Graphic Designer works with our award-winning creative and client services teams to produce polished, attention-grabbing materials. We are looking for people who love design, communicate well, think strategically, and are proactive, detail-oriented team players. Ideal candidates will be able to create quick and thoughtful solutions that meet client needs and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. 

This is a full-time, temporary position through Election Day 2024 with competitive salary and excellent benefits. The nature of our business requires long hours during the election cycle and we expect all staff to be flexible in this area. However, Pivot works to ensure all staff maintain a healthy work/life balance. 

We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis. Priority will be given to candidates who apply before February 27, 2024. The anticipated start date for this position is early April.

Qualifications

Candidates for the Graphic Designer role must submit a portfolio, website, or other examples of previous design work. Applications without this information are considered incomplete. 

What you bring to the team: 

  • Portfolio of engaging, strategic work including illustration. 

  • Working knowledge of print design, pre-press, and commercial print processes. Prior print experience preferred. 

  • Proficiency designing in Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and WordPress  

  • Ability to collaborate and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to help colleagues. 

  • Ability to develop, adhere to, and communicate reasonable timelines.

  • Please include the word "Nectarine" in your cover letter.

  • Comfortable managing deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. 

  • Commitment to racial equity, social justice, and democratic causes.  

  • Proficiency in Excel with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. 

Special consideration will be given to candidates that also demonstrate:

  • Previous direct mail experience. 

  • Fluency in Spanish. 

  • Understanding of digital and social media strategies. 

  • Ability to think strategically and conceptually.

Responsibilities

Creative Production 

  • Develop and create smart, strategic concepts that tackle big issues. 

  • Ready to work across platforms, including direct mail, brand identity, broadcast and digital. 

  • Translate concept memos from client teams into polished materials for democratic candidates and political organizations. 

  • Maintain an understanding of a variety of platforms including print, digital, branding, etc. 

  • Manage time efficiently to complete multiple assignments simultaneously. 

  • Format files correctly to ensure everything we produce is successful and ready to print. 

  • Design Pivot internal projects from social media to marketing materials. 

 

Collaboration/Communication 

  • Collaborate with Creative Director and client teams to develop and problem solve any creative and content issues. 

  • Communicate ideas verbally and visually to team members and internal clients. 

  • Attend meetings to discuss upcoming projects, client needs, progress on current work, etc. 

  • Give and receive feedback on projects in a respectful and constructive manner. 

  • Participate in creative meetings, share ideas and feedback. 

 

Editing Process 

  • Address and interpret client edits that result in an optimal finished product. 

  • Adapt designs based on constructive feedback from the Art Director and Creative Director. 

  • Effectively respond to edits to materials from Client Services and clients. 

  • Maintain flexibility for unexpected and large scale changes that need to be completed in a timely manners 

 

Organization 

  • Create and maintain files for all creative assets and resources, such as software, art materials, and special fonts. 

  • Maintain design file structures. Ensure that projects are in the right folders, are properly linked, have correct job codes, etc.

  • Help maintain our digital asset management system.

  • Maintain and continue to expand our internal design tools 

Approaches

  • Manages Workload with Efficiency: Juggling competing demands and prioritizing without sacrificing quality. Specially during an election cycle, we juggle between direct mail, brand identity, and internal marketing design.

  • Attention to Detail: Maintains high standard of work - quickly catching and fixing errors. Quickly grasps the subtleties of complex patterns and notices and fixes errors that others might overlook. Acknowledges mistakes and turns them into learning opportunities. Calls attention to issues when in doubt and has a track record of leaving things better than they found them. 

  • Effective Collaboration & Communication: Willingness to roll up sleeves and help colleagues. Communication is vital for all members of this team. Collaboration between designers and senior staff ensure work is produced correctly.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary for this position is set at $65,000 per year. There is also the opportunity for end of election bonuses, based off individual and firm performance. To ensure pay equity across our team, salaries are non-negotiable.
