How You Will Contribute: 

Blue Planet www.blueplanet.com, the Software division of Ciena, provides best-in-class intelligent automation software and niche professional services to help clients modernize their IT and network operations. Driven by policy and AI-based insights, Blue Planet delivers the closed-loop automation tools needed to align IT and networking processes—critical to facilitating digital transformation and an adaptive network.  

 

Reporting to the Director, Product Line Management, as a UX Designer, you will work with Product Management and R&D teams to build an outstanding user experience for the Blue Planet software portfolio.   

  • You will design outstanding UX visualizations and workflows for a number of critically meaningful cloud native software applications and ensure UX consistency across different interfaces of our portfolio. 

  • You will partner with Product Management, customers, and the development organization to validate requirements and formulate architecture maps, workflows, and mock-ups. 

  • You’ll play a significant role in all development phases – planning, designing, implementing, reviewing, testing, deployment and support. 

  • In addition to playing an important role in the hiring of new team members as we expand the team in the future, you will provide on-going mentorship and coaching.

The Must Haves:   

  • Proven experience in UX design for industrial type applications such as telecom, utilities, manufacturing, or health care applications. 

  • Experience in designing applications enabling users to run policy-based workflows. 

  • Experience in designing desktop applications for visualizing and navigating massive amounts of data. 

  • Experience charting sophisticated relationships between interconnected devices, such as a network millions of network endpoints in a fluctuating state of availability. 

  • A solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility concerns. 

  • Ability to work with clients to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet client needs and vision. 

  • Ability to work with engineering to understand real-world design constraints. 

  • Ability to communicate designs in a compelling manner and drive alignment in designs across multiple product teams and stakeholders. 

  • Familiar with web-based application design paradigms used in common HTML/CSS/JS based web applications. 

  • Familiar with sophisticated visualization and interaction paradigms including 3D. VR, AR. 

  • Expertise in standard UX software such as AdobeXD, Figma, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq and Framer. 

 

Assets: 

  • Experience designing solutions for telecommunications or computer networking providers or vendors.
