Job Summary:

Blavity Inc. is seeking a Senior Director of Content & Programming to oversee Blavity.com, Shadow and Act, social-first video & audio licensing, and Blavity Media Group’s content calendar, programs & tentpole digital campaigns. This role will be responsible for leading all aspects of strategy for acquisition and licensing content under Blavity Media Group’s umbrella including deal sourcing, analysis and partner content onboarding.

The ideal candidate is someone who deeply understands vertical video and editorial voice and is a strong operator, able to implement timelines, budget processes, tools, data and testing best practices in order to increase page views, reach, engagement and more. This person is a team leader who will have a fresh perspective on viral content moments and produce fresh and innovative campaigns that align with creating content for Black and diverse audiences.

This role will report directly to our CBO/CFO and will manage a team of social producer/editors and Blavity.com and shadow and act editorial leads.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop long-term strategic content goals for the department, oversee the departmental budget, and guide the daily distribution process and procedures of the team

  • Develop and license podcast and Youtube shows for the Blavity Media brand

  • Project manage and Executive produce a slate of digital Blavity original vertical video social shows (5-10 minute episodes).

  • Lead a data-driven editorial strategy and leverage audience insights to develop the voice of each Blavity Media brand

  • Create, own and oversee the execution of Blavity Media Group’s year-round content calendar

  • Oversee the Blavity.com content KPIs

  • Responsible for setting quarterly goals with clear KPIs against all Blavity Media Group brands, channels, digital campaigns and tactics, and research competitive benchmarks to set aggressive but realistic targets

  • Spearhead and own a series of 3 to 5 tent pole campaigns throughout the year from inception to execution including Blavity Creator 100, Blavity U and other experiments to expand audiences.

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders (Product, Sales, Creative, etc.) across the company to enable Editorial services & content team to function more effectively and increase overall impact

  • Create new editorial products using text/audio and video (in collaboration with our video and social teams)

  • Partner with audience development and SEO to grow engagement on Blavity Media original content.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BA/BS preferred

  • Required Experience:

    • 7+ years of related experience in digital, SEO, editorial, social video or publishing

    • 5+ years of people management experience of at least 2 direct full time reports

    • Proven track record of executing content deals

    • Significant experience creating marketing/digital campaigns from developing vision, to the message platform, to overseeing production on-time and on-budget

    • A proven track record of years of driving sustained, organic traffic growth in competitive digital media environments

  • Technologies: Fluent in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, SEO tools, Asana, and/or comparable project management suite

  • Additional Qualifications:

    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

    • Bold leadership skills, confident in team building, mentoring and guiding talent

    • Deep understanding of the digital landscape, social platforms and technology trends

    • A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture

Details:

  • This is a fully remote role, occasional travel may be required.

  • Candidates must be available to work at least 80% in alignment with the Eastern Time Zone.

  • The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $165,000.
