“Don’t let reality get in the way of your dreams.”
How do you keep your creative drip going?
Staying in tune with my mind and spirit.
If you could talk to your favorite creative for an hour, who would it be and why?
Augusta Savage. Her perseverance and ability to create in the midst of chaos is enchanting.
What is the last thing you learned?
Listen to that inner voice. It’s vital, especially as a woman!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
You're going to be fine, listen to your intuition.
What advice would you give to creatives of color looking to pursue their passion full-time?
Don't let reality get in the way of your dreams. It requires serious meditation, commitment and even time away from your passion to keep the creativity alive.
What are you working on right now?
Ideas for my next photoshoot. There’s an online boutique my friends and I run called Smackawaybeauty. We’re going to need some photos for branding.
“You’re going to be fine, listen to your intuition.”
What inspires you?
Honestly, every day life. Living in Jacksonville Fl, it's not much creativity going around and especially not much in the black community. So my own adventures inspire me, whether I’m hanging out or working. Experiences turn into art for me. Interactions with people turn in to inspiration for photoshoots to recreate what I was feeling at that point in time and so on. My eyes are my camera, the Nikon I use is yours!
Describe your dream job.
I don’t have just one dream job. I would like to pursue, photography, modeling, and building my own fashion brand. Just a few things I enjoy that I know I can put my all into. If they take off the way I envision, I can work from home and still be with family when I can. The freedom of being able to work for myself and go home when I’d like to enjoy family is very important.
What skill(s) would you develop of you had more time?
My photo editing skills, specifically with photoshop.
What industry blogs/websites/podcasts do you enjoy?
Earn Your Leisure via Spotify and instagram.
What do you think the future holds for people of color in creative industries?
I believe, there will be a major increase in creatives of color in the years to come!
